Meet John

The vision developed by John Squire and Susan Lemkin in creating our firm, was to distill the experience and values they shared into a distinct culture unique in the practice of public accounting. From PriceWaterhouseCoopers, where John spent the first four years of his career, he brought a very high level of professionalism: how to set high standards and get things done right. From his position as a partner in two regional firms, he blended in business acumen, experience, and judgment: how to creatively meet our clients’ needs within the context of the standards and regulations to which we must adhere. And from his firm belief that skilled, well trained professionals are the source of the highest quality client service, he brought a focus on mentoring and developing young people into strong, confident, consummate professionals.

John works principally with not-for-profit organizations providing audit and tax services as well as business counsel to their management and boards. He has helped his clients develop a bottom line orientation in an effort to build and maintain unrestricted reserves. He has worked with clients to minimize tax on unrelated business income through an in-depth knowledge of the form 990; and he has urged his clients to use the 990 as a marketing vehicle given that the 990 is a public document.

John is a former CPA in the District of Columbia and in Maryland. He has served as board president and/or treasurer of the Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company, the Sheridan School and the Harbor School, and has volunteered in other capacities for a variety of community endeavors. An economics major at Lehigh University, John earned an MBA with a concentration in accounting at the American University in Washington DC.
